img forexsq - Gold prices on Monday began a new week on a positive note, adding to the modest gains recorded Friday as the U.S. dollar weakened and amid expectations that Japan may pursue inflation more aggressively after the upcoming general elections.

Gold futures for delivery in December GCZ2 +0.43% climbed $7.90, or 0.5%, to $1,722.60 an ounce in electronic trading. The metal had added less than $1 during Friday’s regular session on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
